PLANETWATCH at Ruislip Lido

Saturn

Please note this event will go ahead only if the weather allows. Please check the weather forecast about two hours before travelling to the Ruislip Lido. If the forecast shows rain, please do not turn up.

SUNDAY NIGHT looks promising. The weather forecast is showing some breaks in the cloud. For all those who were not able to make it on Friday or Saturday due to the weather, I look forward to seeing some of you tonight at the Lido.

The West of London Astronomical Society invites you to observe Saturn, Mars, and other night sky objects at Ruislip Lido from 7.30 to 10 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 19th, 20th and 21st March 2010.

This will be a wonderful chance to view Saturn and Mars through a wide variety of WOLAS members’ telescopes. If the skies are reasonably clear we may also get the chance to observe other night sky objects, including galaxies and star clusters. Members of WOLAS will be on hand to help and to answer any questions you mayhave. Bring your family and friends, it should be great fun, as well as informative. Don’t forget to bring warm clothing, the nights are very chilly at this time of year.

Ruislip Lido is off Bury Street.

Entry is via the gate adjacent to the free car park at the end of Reservoir Road HA4 7TY.

No admission charge.

West of London Astronomical Society

We are affiliated to The Federation of Astronomical Societies and The British Astronomical Association.
Our President is Prof. Alec Boksenberg.

Established in 1967, WOLAS has become one of the largest amateur astronomical societies in the South East. With a current membership of over 170 and a regular meeting attendance of between 50 and 60, WOLAS is going from strength to strength!

The Society is very definitely not just for the advanced amateur astronomer, we have members with all levels of experience and interests and would welcome new members of all ages. Younger people are especially welcome.

Our monthly meetings are held at two locations:-
1) Christ Church Chapel, Redford Way, Uxbridge.
2) St John's Ambulance Hall, North Harrow.

Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month except August, covering a wide range of subjects, from observing the Moon to cosmology and from astrophotography to practical advice and discussions.

Secretary Mr D. Radbourne.
